Ocean Hill is a neighborhood located in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. It is bordered by East New York to the north, Brownsville to the west, and Cypress Hills to the south.
The neighborhood is historically significant for the educational conflicts that occurred in the late 1960s. In 1968, a strike by the United Federation of Teachers led to a prolonged educational crisis in Ocean Hill-Brownsville, characterized by clashes between black parents seeking greater representation in the schools and largely Jewish teachers unions.
Today, Ocean Hill is known for its diverse community, with a mix of residential and commercial areas. The neighborhood is home to several parks, including Betsy Head Park and the Highland Park Ridgewood Reservoir. It is also accessible by several subway lines, including the A, C, J, and L trains.
